Is Science Useful?

It is difficult to answer whether or not science is beneficial. Scientists are urged to pursue their interests. However, this may result in research that is focused on a broad range of topics, some of which might not be directly beneficial to society. For instance, an important aspect of science is developing theories and making predictions that can be testable. These discoveries are often used in the development of new technologies, such as medical devices, pharmaceuticals and renewable energy sources.

To be effective, science should also address issues and problems that affect human wellbeing. This requires collaboration with stakeholders to define their needs, establish specific goals and formulate a plan that addresses these needs. Currently, many scientific initiatives do not have this type of collaboration and are focused on expanding knowledge without a direct link to society. Furthermore, the impact of research is often not evaluated and monitored in an effective manner.

A variety of strategies have been devised to generate usable research such as the concept of translational ecology (TE) which stresses the necessity of scientists to proactively consider and respond to the research context. TE emphasizes the importance of involving end users in a meaningful way throughout the research process, and encouraging learning-based decision-making processes, such as adaptive management.

Students often find it difficult to choose a topic which is both fascinating as well and scholarly, particularly when professors impose time limits. This is why the list of easy research topics in science comes in handy for students looking for an area that will allow them to gain the approval of their teachers while providing valuable information to the scientific community.
